June – Works in Watercolor by Randy Eckard and Richard H. Eyster.
Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a two-person exhibition of exquisitely detailed drybrush watercolor paintings by nationally renowned, award-winning watercolorists Randy Eckard and Richard H. Eyster. The exhibit demonstrates the artistic mastery of both men and showcases the stunning beauty of drybrush watercolor painting a classical technique in which water-soluble pigments are used directly with or mixed with a minimum of water to create paintings with great precision and beauty.
Drybrush watercolor painting is noted for use of translucent pigments. Oil paints offer outstanding detail but due to their opaque nature reveal only the final layer of paint. Conventional watercolors hide nothing so each luminous layer remains visible through the others, offering luminosity but limited detail and crisp realism.
While difficult to master, drybrush watercolor painting offers the best of both worlds. Its rich pigmentation allows for extraordinary detail and luminosity – while its natural water solubility generates glowing, flowing layers of translucent color.
If you love watercolor paintings don’t miss this amazing exhibition showcasing two masters of the medium opening June 1st at 11:00 a.m. Open to all ages free of charge from through June 29th, 2025.

September – Deena S. Ball A Solo Exhibition of Paintings.
Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibition of paintings by nationally renowned landscape artist and educator Deena S. Ball who is known for her innovative use of mediums in combination with textured ground and specialized surfaces. Deena creates landscape paintings to help others see, respect, and conserve the beauty of our natural world.
“When I choose to paint a scene, it’s often the play of light across the landscape that inspires me. The broad vistas and clear north light captivate me. If it’s a scene from the Maine coast, I’m interested in how light and shadow interact with the jagged rocks, contrasted with the perpetual shimmer of the moving ocean.
On foggy days, my focus shifts to the changing colors and subtle value shifts. As I paint the scene and capture the effects of light, a particular mood emerges. The sparkling sun dancing across rocks and ocean is invigorating, while the early dawn, painting the world pink and glowing in tranquility, is calming and hopeful. The Maine landscape has a darker stormier side, with deep pine woods where nothing stirs, rivers that are powerful enough to wash out roads, a rising ocean that threatens and does claim man’s creations. Perhaps it’s the prevalence of sullen skies that makes an artist appreciate the nuances of grey and the full impact of a burst of sunlight.”
Deena holds a BA in Art History and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville, Maine and continued her studies at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and Tyler School of Art. An active teaching artist for both adults and children, she is regularly invited to conduct workshops and presentations for artist’s organizations. Recent presentations and workshops include ones for the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Waterville Art Association, Onodaga Art Society, Art Waves MDI, Mendocino Art Center, Artascope, and Wayne Art Center.
Deena is a past president of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, co-founder and Artistic Director of the non-profit LandArt Events. She has achieved signature status at the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Her work has been in numerous juried exhibitions throughout the United States and published in Plein Air Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, Splash, Watercolor Artist, and the pandemic event Great American Paint Out.
