June 2016 – Jane Herbert: A Solo Exhibition of Paintings
(Portland, ME) Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibition of paintings by artist Jane Herbert on June 1 at 10 a.m. A year-round resident of Damariscotta, Jane responds to the ever changing colors, life, and mood of coastal Maine by creating paintings in a traditional style. Her current series of paintings in acrylic are a visual expression of life along the coast and reveal her observation of the working waterfronts, harbors and beautiful but rugged coast of Maine.
The public is invited to meet Jane at a reception at Richard Boyd Art Gallery on Saturday, June 4 between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. where she will be available to discuss her current series of paintings. The exhibit is open free of charge between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily through June 29, 2016.
About Jane Herbert
A gifted fine and commercial artist, when asked about her painting style and art education Jane said, “I have an unstructured approach to art and life that has served me well. Instead of earning a formal education I gathered my brushes and toured Europe in a micro-bus, painting and learning as I went.
My painting style is born out of my experiences. The bold colors of the sixties have mellowed and blended with the background, along with the sometimes humorous, sometimes dark pen and inks left along the road. A year at Montserrat School of Visual Art, many sketchbooks and canvases, the commercial art jobs I was fortunate to have, and especially the doodling and dreams of challenging times, are part of the palette of my life.
Life has been a creative, do-it-yourself adventure for me. Through my life I have embraced my creativity, and painting specifically, I love painting and love sharing my work!”
