The exhibit”Scenes From Maine Landscapes and Seascapes”, is a selection of oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel paintings depicting Maine’s coastline, islands and wilderness settings. A patent attorney and chemist, Bob Santandrea’s paintings are not only a means of self expression but also a welcome departure from his day job. For many years Santandrea’s primary artistic interests were the human form and portraiture. After moving to Corning, New York Bob became more interested in landscapes and re-discovered his love of pastels. Santandrea is drawn to the bright colors and spontaneity that the medium allows. Working plein-air, Bob lays down an under painting in watercolor which adds a degree of luminosity to his work. The different effects provided by the softness and brilliance of pastel colors mixed with other media allow Santandrea to take a more impressionistic approach to his subject. Bob’s plein-air paintings capture the scenic beauty of Maine’s coastline and islands.

Living on an island off the coast of Maine, Jeanne O’Toole hayman is constantly inspired by the world around her. Well known for her paintings depicting landscapes, seascapes and coastal Maine scenes, Jeanne’s use of complex color combinations and thick impasto gestures add a distinctive depth and complexity to her paintings.

Jay LaBrie’s paintings depicting landscapes and seascapes from Casco Bay to St. John Valley, represent a moment in time. Jay’s use of color and subtle hues capture the beauty of each study and draw the viewer in for a closer look.
