(Portland, ME) Richard Boyd Art Gallery opens a solo exhibition of images by Friendship, Maine artist Pam Cabañas on September 1 at 10:00 a.m.  Much of Pam’s work has it’s start en plein air. In her words, “my work is inspired by the stunning visuals and huge hearts rooted deep in the harsh and ever changing coast of Maine. My work seeks to uncover the chords that bind the love of place with the creation and viewing of fine art. My exploration of the uninhabited islands of the Muscungus has led me into a series of paintings that I hope blend the shocking beauty of the coastal Maine environment with a self-portrait easily acceeible to the hearts of my viewers. Working in two divergent mediums, soft pastel and monochromatic ink wash, I move ever closer to my artistic goals.”

Pam’s formal education in the arts include a BFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and graduate studies in hand litography and art education at the University of New Mexico. Pam says she is a “full time artist with part-time incursions” which includes her work as a docent for the Farnsworth Art Museum. Pam’s work is on exhibit free of charge to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through September 30, 2014. The gallery is located at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street, in the first building on the right, on the first floor.
