(Portland ME) Richard Boyd Art Gallery Opens a solo exhibition of paintings by Amy Bickford on September 1 at 10:00 a.m. A multi-talented artist working in a variety of mediums, Amy is best known for painting portraits which depict her interpretation of the timeless beauty and essence of each study. Amy will be available to meet the public and discuss her works at a reception in the gallery on Saturday, September 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

When asked about her art education and experience Amy said, “I graduated from the Maine College of Art (MECA) in 1983. Since graduating, I’ve held a variety of jobs while continuing to create art works for individual clients, corporations, and small businesses, including painting murals for the Children’s Museum of Art in Portland and recreating the artworks on the ceiling of St. John’s Cathedral in Bangor, Maine.

I create paintings using a variety of mediums including gouache, watercolors, acrylic and mixed media. I prefer painting with gouache, but use the medium that best helps me interpret the scene. When I’m painting a landscape I don’t recreate the image exactly as it appeared before me but capture my interpretation of that place in time.

When I paint a portrait I use a combination of live sittings and reference photographs to see beyond physical attributes and help me capture the inner beauty of the subject. My current portfolio of work includes portraits and scenes of the ever changing interior and coast of Maine. Through the years, I’ve been fortunate to use my talent and love of painting to bring happiness to others.”

Amy’s ability to capture the timeless beauty and essence of the subjects she paints is coveted by collectors. Her art works are exhibited locally and held in numerous private collections.

Richard Boyd Art Gallery is located on Peaks Island in Portland, ME at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street, in the first building on the right, on the first floor. The exhibit is on view free of charge to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through September 30, 2015.
